Do Fleet Dash Cams Record All the Time?
7 September 2026
Fleet Cameras Can Do More Than Simply Record
Fleet dash cams can record continuously while a vehicle is being driven, but what happens to that footage, how you access it and whether recording continues when the vehicle is parked depends on the camera system and how it is configured.

1. While the Vehicle Is Driving
While the vehicle is on the road, fleet cameras record footage. With a connected system, fleet managers can view the live vehicle location, follow its route, watch supported camera feeds live and retrieve footage later through the AGL portal.

2. When an Incident Occurs
Depending on the fleet camera system installed, a collision can be recorded as a crash event, making the relevant footage easier to find. Incident alerts can also be configured to notify fleet managers when a collision occurs.
3. Recording While Parked
Not every fleet camera records when the engine is switched off. AGL has options that can continue parked recording for a set period, while suitable vehicle tracking devices can continue providing location and vehicle data afterwards.

4. Accessing Earlier Footage
Fleet managers can access recorded camera footage through the AGL portal, select footage from a specific time and download clips. If needed, AGL can also help retrieve and provide the required vehicle camera footage.
The Right Recording Setup Depends on Your Fleet
Not every fleet needs cameras to work in the same way. You may simply need reliable incident footage, or you may want live viewing, remote downloads, AI detection, driver monitoring or multiple cameras providing wider coverage around the vehicle.
AGL can configure a system around what you need to record, how long you need access to it and how you want to manage your footage.
